Nhan Ho- Industry Hip Hop
This commercial-forward class explores the movement, musicality, and performance qualities often seen in music videos, live performances, tours, and auditions. Drawing from hip hop foundations and commercial dance influences, choreography may shift between sharp and hard-hitting movement, grounded grooves, smooth textures, intricate musicality, and moments of control and restraint. Rather than focusing solely on speed or executing steps, dancers are encouraged to explore how movement connects to the music, intention, and individual performance quality. Emphasis is placed on musicality, clarity, dynamics, stage presence, and bringing your own voice to the choreography. While the movement may lean toward an intermediate level, the class is designed to welcome all bodies and experience levels, with modifications and opportunities to make the movement your own.
Nhan Ho is a choreographer, performer, educator, and interdisciplinary movement artist whose work bridges contemporary-modern dance, commercial movement, and collaborative performance. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Dance at Northwestern State University and Resident Choreographer with sjDANCEco in San José, California. He holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Arizona and a BA in Dance from San José State University.
Ho’s movement practice is grounded in more than a decade of Limón training, including his work with master teacher Gary Masters and as a performing member of Limón West Dance Project. His artistic practice has expanded through contemporary, commercial, improvisational, and interdisciplinary forms, shaping a movement language rooted in musicality, physicality, storytelling, and human connection.
In 2010, Ho founded the Nhan Ho Project, a contemporary dance company he led as Artistic Director for fourteen years through its final season in 2024. His choreography has been presented in professional and academic settings across the United States, including work with sjDANCEco, the ChoreoProject Awards, and West Wave Dance Festival.
His current creative research expands beyond the traditional stage through dance for camera and interdisciplinary collaborations involving movement, science, multimedia, photography, live music, and interactive technology. As an educator, Ho is committed to creating inclusive and challenging spaces that encourage dancers to develop technical versatility, artistic curiosity, individuality, and confidence while discovering movement as a means of communication and connection.
