Peter Litwinowicz- Contemporary

Pete's class begins with 45 minutes of warm-up and technique work, followed by 30 minutes building a combination. Themes of fall, suspension, and release will be woven throughout, paired with an exploration of speed and agility. Central to the class is the spine — its expressiveness and the full range of ways it can articulate through movement. Equally weighted with technical training is the question of how to perform: presence, intention, and artistry are treated as fundamental skills, not afterthoughts.

Pete Litwinowicz's movement style draws from the techniques of contemporary, jazz, and ballet — weaving together lyricism and softness with the contrasting qualities of speed, power, and raw physicality. Pete works in distinctive rhythms and has developed a training approach centered on liberating the dancer's full expressive potential. He has taught at some of the Bay Area's most respected institutions, including Lines Ballet, Zohar Dance School, Western Ballet, and ODC. As a dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker, Pete has collaborated with Lizz Roman and Dancers since 2017, served as co-artistic director of Dance Continuum SF from 2007 to 2012, and performed with Company Chaddick from 1996 to 2006. His creative work extends beyond the stage — as a visual effects artist and software developer in film and television, Pete has earned some of the industry's highest honors, including an Academy Award®, an Emmy®, the Ars Electronica Golden Nica (Austria), and the Imagina Award (Monaco) for Best Visual Effects and Visual Innovation.
