Tribes: A Dance in Light and Shadow: Tribes is an evening-length contemporary dance work inspired by The Twelve Tribes of Israel Windows by Marc Chagall, exploring identity, heritage, and resilience through movement, light, and visual storytelling. This performance features excerpts from the larger work ahead of its world premiere in March 2027, offering a glimpse into its rich, interconnected themes of belonging and shared human experience.
Jacksonville Dance Theatre (JDT) is a professional contemporary dance company dedicated to creating bold, thought-provoking work while expanding access to the arts across Northeast Florida. Founded in 2012, JDT has become a leading voice in the region’s cultural landscape, presenting original performances that blend technical excellence with compelling storytelling.
Beyond the stage, JDT is deeply committed to community engagement through initiatives such as Creative Dance in Schools (CDIS), which brings movement education to Title I elementary schools, and EverMotion, a program designed to support wellness and connection for older adults. The company regularly collaborates with local and national artists, as well as institutions such as the Florida Theatre and Florida State College at Jacksonville, fostering opportunities for both emerging and established performers.
