Paty Solórzano

Paty Lorena Solórzano is a bi-national dance artist researching embodied ecology, improvisation, and multicultural story-telling. A 2024-25 Dance Source Houston AIR, her latest work La Maleza premiered at Barnstorm Dance Fest in April. Performance credits include: Menil Drawing Institute, Tiresias’s Underworld: Uncanny Valley at the House of Yes (NYC), Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, Sidewalk Detroit, Triskelion Arts, AUNTS NYC, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Primate Escénico, Performática, Querétaro Experimental (Mexico), ResExtensa (Italy), and the Ministry of Culture Costa Rica. Past residencies include: Keshet Makerspace, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida Dance Festival, Guapamácataro Arts & Ecology, and the Diverse Intelligences Summer Institute. She is a 2018 NALAC Leadership Fellow and 2023 recipient of National Endowment for Culture and the Arts Mexico “Young Creators” award for her project Danzas Migratorias: Choreography for the Monarch Butterfly. She was full-time Professor of Dance at University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico 2019-2023. Guest teaching includes: University of Michigan, Riverside Community College, Ohio University, Arlington Heights High School, IBERO Puebla, Florida Dance Festival, Performática (MX), and Texas Dance Improvisation Festival. As a dancer, se has performed in works by Lydia Hance | Frame Ensemble, jill sigman | thinkdance, Sophia Torres, Susan Douglas Roberts, Sandra Organ Solis, Evan Silver (Tiresias), James Sewell, Fernando Bujones, Sasha Waltz, Noa Wertheim, Mats Ek, Nacho Duato, among others. Paty holds a BFA from Texas Christian University, and MFA from the University of Michigan.
